Make the most of your lunchbreak and enjoy our series of free concerts at the Hedberg performed by students, staff and alumni of the School of Creative Arts and Media. Bringing exceptional music to the local community, all are welcome at these 50-minute recitals designed to provide space for contemplation in our acoustically renowned Ian Potter Recital Hall.
Tickets are FREE but registrations essential as seating is limited.
From 15th January 2022, anyone coming to our campuses, facilities and events is required to be fully vaccinated or have an exemption. Masks must be worn in indoor public settings, including all university venues, from 12:01am, Tuesday 21 December 2021.
Friday 17 October 2022 Student Concert: Big Band. The University of Tasmania Big Band will present a programme from Duke Ellington to Soundgarden featuring the vocals of Miah Aplin and Hannah Denman. Book tickets

Friday 26 August 2022 A rich and deep collaboration from two of Australia’s leading improvisers, Scott Tinkler (trumpet) & Julius Schwing (guitar) from Bruny Island, Tasmania. Tinkler & Schwing have spent the last three years on Bruny Island developing structures and strategies for improvisation on trumpet and guitar. The focus of their practice has been improvisations informed by and in response to each other and specific acoustic environments such as lighthouses, boats, stairwells and sheds. View concert program
Friday 19 August 2022 Join us for a special benefit concert performed by students from the University of Tasmania's Songwriting, Classical Performance, 和爵士乐和流行音乐流. The fundraiser is in support of the Handfish Conservation Project, established in 2018 to implement a recovery plan for three Critically Endangered species of handfish; the Red Handfish, Spotted Handfish, and Ziebell's Handfish. Friday 27 May 2022 Student Concert: Piano. Join classical piano students studying at the Hedberg, for a delightful concert of piano solo, duo, and trio works. The program will include works by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, Ravel and more. View concert program
Friday 13 May 2022 Student Concert: Wind Ensemble. Students from Elizabeth, Hobart, Claremont, and Rosny Colleges join forces with members of the university's orchestra for an afternoon of vibrant music by Ingolf Dahl, Antonio Cabezon, arr. Percy Graiger, Maria Grenfell, Percy Grainger, Steven Bryant and Carlos Chavez. View concert program
Friday 6 May 2022 A special lunchtime concert performed by students from the University of Tasmania's Songwriting, Classical Performance, 和爵士乐和流行音乐流. The concert is in support of the Red Cross’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal - bringing vital funds to support health facilities with medicines and equipment, providing families with food, and repairing vital infrastructure. Friday 29 April 2022 Mia Palencia In Good Company with Paul Williamson (album launch): Since its formation in January 2012, Mia Palencia In Good Company have performed- extensively throughout Tasmania, being featured at key events, including Jazz in the Park- 2012 and Devil City Swing Festival. After many years of sitting in the ABC studio vault, their latest album, Fleeting, is finally being released at this lunchtime concert album launch in conjunction with International Jazz Day 2022. Friday 22 April 2022 Maria Lurighi and Andrew Legg have been making music together for over 20 years. They create beautiful and arresting musical soundscapes that both transverse and seek to honour the great music traditions of African America. In this concert they explore the connection between the voice and piano in the context of our place now in this world. View concert program
Friday 8 April 2022 To celebrate the first concert in our series, Dr Arabella Teniswood-Harvey and Dr Michael Kieran Harvey perform Messiaen’s Cold War masterpiece for two pianos “Visions de l’Amen” (Visions of the End), which finds cyclic relevance as the world faces down another era of apocalyptic imperialism from Russia.
